Listen to classical music with Mike in this class for students approximately ages 7-12. We'll point out cool things to listen for, and discover instruments and pieces that kids love but that they didn't know existed! The aim of the class is that classical music becomes a source of joy, excitement, and inspiration - not an unapproachable high art form - that kids will feel comfortable with throughout their life.
When
Wednesdays throughout the 2026/2027 school year, any time between 4:00-6:00pm Eastern time (3:00-5:00pm Central time). The class is designed for students to drop in for 20-30 minutes to minimize screen time and keep their attention. After 30 minutes, the material will repeat.

Tuition
$44 suggested monthly payment per household, for a calendar month, with a sliding scale from $30 to $80.
There is no commitment. You can sign up for a single calendar month, or for every month the class is offered.

Privacy and security for students
Classes will be operated in "Focus mode" in Zoom, so that participants will not be able to see other participants' videos, though will be aware of number of people in the room, and the name listed by each participant. Students will only see the host's video broadcast. Students will not be able to send text chats to other participants individually, though the ability to text chat in one, publicly visible chat may be allowed. Occasional audio feedback may be solicited from students, in which case they can unmute and speak temporarily, if they choose.
Strict policy: Although students can't see other students' videos, cameras must be ON at all times to ensure all participants are students. Accounts who switch off the camera at any time will be moved to the waiting room, and readmitted at the next 10-minute interval (4:40, 4:50, etc.).
If separate video clips are created for marketing, they will never feature students. Any AI features within Zoom are disabled for our classes. Parents/guardians/babysitters are required to be within at least earshot at all times, and are always encouraged to join the class themselves alongside their student!
Absences
The Music Discovery classes are designed to be casual drop-in classes, priced low enough that even if a student misses a session or two in a given month, it's still a great value. There are no partial refunds, and since this is a live class only with no recordings, there are no make up videos provided.
