Ear training and music theory are fundamental skills for to develop one's musicianship. For both students and adults looking for a deeper understanding of their craft, these lessons help develop thoughtful, complete musicians, with an emphasis on ear training, analysis, and exploring theory through real repertoire.
These skills are indispensable for students looking to study music more seriously, as well as anyone intending to take the AP Music Theory exam or study music at the college level.
Many people feel there's something more to understand about classical music. In these online, group classes we'll listen to music together, learn about composers, and explore listening with purpose, equipping us to better enjoy the concert experience in person.
Students in this informal but educational class tend to be curious adult learners, with varying degrees of musical backgrounds - including none at all! All are welcome to enjoy.
Mike has been teaching, conducting, and playing piano for what we'll call "an awfully long time". He spent many years in the choral world working as a conductor and pianist with some of the finest groups in the Rhode Island area. He studied composition at New England Conservatory, and loves seeing his students develop into capable musicians.
These days he teaches exclusively online and composes.
